Our values define who we are as a global organisation. At Saint-Gobain, our values are a response to the challenge of sustainable development. They are consistently applied in every business, and is shared by the many corporate entities across the world that make up the Saint-Gobain group.

Principles of conduct

Professional commitment

Every member of the Saint-Gobain group is to utilise, to the best of their abilities, their knowledge and know-how, as well as attend training to keep both up to date. A personal commitment and willingness to take on duties assigned, and the initiative to acquire the knowledge necessary to complete the job is also required. It implies the effective contribution of each person in caring particularly for the environment and for worker health and safety.

Respect for others

An absolute pre-requisite for the personal and professional development of each and everyone. Respect for others is a value that is applied throughout the Saint-Gobain group worldwide. It implies the tolerance and acceptance of diversity and cultural differences. It is expressed by an eagerness to listen, inform, explain, and engage with others through dialogues.

This value requires a rigorous adherence to probity in all professional activities. No individual may compromise the interests of the Group entrusted to them in favour of his or her own private interests – whether in dealing within the Group or in dealing on behalf of the Group with third parties, regardless of local practices. Detailed rules of conduct may be adopted for certain categories of Group personnel where the nature of their responsibilities so requires.

A value where honesty and fairness is key when dealing with superiors, colleagues, subordinates and third parties. In particular, pursuits of self-interest that may conflict with the goals of any or all of the entities within the Saint-Gobain Group is prohibited. It implies the adherence to the guidelines and internal rules of individual companies and of the Group.

The sense of individual responsibility at work that prevails over self-centredness. Solidarity encourages teamwork and brings out the best in each individual, contributing to the achievement of the company and the Group's objectives. Adhering to this value means to reject all management and operational methods that are geared towards the self-satisfaction of given individuals instead of the interests of the company or the Group as a whole.

Principles of action

Respect for the law

All companies operating under the Saint-Gobain Group must adhere to all laws and regulations of the countries where their business is conducted. All actions which might breach applicable norms of competition law must be prohibited by all group companies. Any form of financing political parties or activities, even if allowed under local law, must be refrained. They must also reject all forms of active or passive corruption be it a domestic, or an international transaction. Additionally, Saint-Gobain Group companies must not exploit loopholes or inadequacies of any such laws and regulations that could mean non-compliance with the norms of the Saint-Gobain Group in any other areas.

Caring for the environment

Companies operating under the Saint-Gobain Group are to actively promote the protection of the environment. All company sites, wherever located, must be managed in a way that allows the clear setting of environmental targets as well as the regular monitoring of environmental performances which are to be measured against the set targets. All Group companies must strive to raise the main relevant environmental performance of their own sites to the level of particularly effective performance standards that can be found in the Saint-Gobain Group for comparable sites, even if it means going above and beyond the regular requirements of the local legislation.

Health and safety of workers

Every company operating under the Saint-Gobain Group is required to take particular care to adopt necessary measures to ensure the best possible protection against all health and safety risks in the workplace. The adoption of risk reduction policies and follow-up on the due application of the same as well as checking actual results against the applicable standards is mandatory. Such policies apply to both the employees of the individual company as well as the employees of sub-contractors, while the latter is working on a Saint-Gobain Group site. They must strive to raise the main relevant health and safety performance standards of their own sites to the levels of particularly effective performance standards found in the Saint-Gobain Group for comparable sites, even if that means going above and beyond the requirements of local legislation.
